Cap and Supes in the News Again

We're only three days into this week and several cape movie stories have lit up the Internet. Here are two news items that I've read since Sunday that caught my eye. As usual, let me know if you think I should've included something else.

The LA Times posted an interview with Joe Johnston, director of The First Avenger: Captain America (2011), in which he says that Cap's origin will have to be tweaked for the movie. This change involves Steve Rodgers being forced to serve with the USO as a stage performer. The usual knee-jerk reaction of many fanboys was that Cap is being "ruined" and everyone involved with the film are idiots. I'll reserve judgement until a few more details are released. Johnston also shocked more than a few people when, in an interview with CHUD, he described the movie as involving possibly eight costumed heroes, including "The Invaders". This surprised a lot of people who assumed the film would focus solely on Cap.

The other news that raised a few eyebrows was the announcement that Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight, was assuming a role in the reboot of the Superman franchise. In an exclusive story on Deadline Hollywood, it was reported that insiders at Warner Bros say that Nolan will act as a "mentor" for the next Supes movie. In the piece, the head of Warner Bros says that they have to make these movies "...more sophisticated...", which bodes well for all the DC-related projects. The article referenced here is absolutely packed with info regarding the history of the Superman films. I plan to go back and delve into more.

Goyer Leaving TV For Batman 3

This brief post on Nikki Finke's blog, Deadline Hollywood, is really about David Goyer leaving the TV show FlashForward. However, it mentions his work on a Batman 3 screenplay
and other films as being the main reason for his exit. As far as I know, this is the first mention of his working on Bats 3.

You Tube - Wes Anderson's Spider-Man

This well-made video shows what Spider-Man would've looked like if Wes Anderson, director of Rushmore (1998) and The Life Aquatic (2004), had filmed it. To everyone involved in the making of this - bravo!

David Scarpa is feeling his inner 'Daredevil'

Nice article published on the LA Times site Friday (2/5) about New Regency's plans to reboot Daredevil. Talk of a new DD movie has been going on for months, but I think this is the first real step the studio has announced so far. They've hired David Scarpa (The Day The Earth Stood Still, 2008) to write the screenplay. David Scarpa is feeling his inner 'Daredevil'

Tim Roth on The Abomination

I stumbled across an interview that MTV did with Tim Roth last month. Roth admits to having a great time in his role as Emil Blonsky/Abomination in The Incredible Hulk (2008) and says he's ready for another go at it if Marvel wants him...

This article "Watchmen 2 In The Works?" on MTV's Splashpage generated a lot of buzz on Twitter this morning. People started tweeting possible titles for a sequel. My suggestion was Watchmen 2: Bluer, Bigger, Nakeder
